Day 104

If you actually read my blog regularly, you may have noticed that I've been slacking a little in the past couple weeks. I've only weighed once in the past weeks, and found that I had gained 4 pounds. I weighed today, and I have gained another 3.5. I have been in the house a lot lately, with all these storms and hurricanes and such, and I know that is the problem. I started eating junk food and not keeping track of it thinking it would be ok. Then I started to get hooked on it. Now I have to work super hard to break that junk-food addiction and get back on track. I wanted to break down and start clean, but it isn't that easy to become carb-clean.

I weighed today, and have lost the few pounds that I've gained back, plus another half a pound! It's crazy, because a couple weeks ago, when I weighed just a half a pound more, I felt way different. I feel great right now, and am excited to keep going in the same direction!

Dinner:
Rest of leftover chicken parmesan 200

Total:
800

Day 85

Since I have some time off of work due to my recent injury, my mom offered to take me on an overnight trip to Lancaster county. Now, I have come to realize that when I go out to eat with my mother, I need to be extra careful. When I am with her, I tend to eat too much, even if I think I am eating healthy at the time. I knew going into this that we would be eating at buffets not only once, but twice. So today, before we left, I ate a low-calorie breakfast, hoping to compensate for the rest of my day. My plan for dinner was to eat as many vegetables and lean proteins as possibly, though I did end up cheating a little. In the end, there is no real way to know the exact number of calories for my dinner, but I think I did OK. I weighed in this morning before I left, and hope to come back the same weight or less.

Breakfast:
One Greek yogurt 150

Dinner:
Buffet...mainly vegetables, and proteins (with one dessert) 900?

Breakfast:
Two eggs with homefries 500

Dinner:
Some leftover chicken Parmesan 200

Total:
700

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Day 83

I have performed a miracle. That's right, I have stopped time for over a week...on my blog anyway. A few days ago I burned my hand at work, and have been doing nothing but eating and sleeping since. I had problems with the meds the hospital prescribed me, so it has really been a mess. Before today, I haven't counted a calorie or weighed in over a week. I was feeling a little better today, so I cleaned myself up and decided to get on the scale. I am praising the Lord that I've only gained half a pound. It really is a miracle. I've eaten all sorts of delicious high-calorie foods in the past week, so I got on the scale prepared for a gain of 5 pounds or more. This really was an incredible blessing, especially after everything I've been through the past few days. This is what made me decide to hop right back on the wagon and pick up where I left off. I could go back and try to add in the days that I have missed, but I don't see any point in that.

Breakfast:
Two eggs 200

Snack:
One Greek yogurt 150

Dinner:
Half chicken parmesan dinner with a side salad 600

Total:
950

Day 81

Today was my day off, so I made breakfast at home, and was out and about running errands all day. I went out for dinner later with my mom to a little Italian restaurant. I ordered Chicken Parmesan, which of course came with a ton of other stuff. I ate the salad and some of the appetizer, the dessert, and just a few bites of the meal. This way, I still got to enjoy what I like, but it didn't cost me my calories for two days. So many people think that "going on a diet," or "trying to lose weight" means giving up eating foods that they enjoy. I have found that this theory is NOT true at all. It is possible to eat the foods that you love everyday, as long as you are paying attention to your calories and portion sizes.

Breakfast:
Two eggs with some cheese 230

Lunch:
Sour cream and onion bagel with reduced fat cream cheese 430

Dinner:
Side Caesar salad 200
One piece of bruscetta 150

Dessert
Mini canolli 70

Total:

Day 80

I opened today, which means getting up at 3:30AM. I am not normally hungry on mornings when I open, because it's so early, but I usually eat something small anyway because I know it will be about 6 hours before I can eat again. This morning however, I was VERY hungry, so I ate a lot for breakfast, and figured I would eat light the rest of the day. Around 7:30, my co-worker made a smoothie for me, (made with real fruit,) so that was second breakfast today. I'm not really sure how many calories it was, but I am allowing 300. I also didn't finish it all, so I'm hoping that helps shave a few calories off. My plan for eating light today kind of went down the drain, even though I ate mostly healthy items. I was just very hungry today, and since I ate so much in the morning, I am a little over on calories, but not by much.

Day 76

Guess who was Panera's number one employee for the month of July? You guessed it, yours truly! Today I was told that I am employee of the month for the month of July. I was really shocked and blown away by this, considering I have only been with the company just under six months, and there are about 60 employees at my location. It truly is an honor that I do not take lightly. Receiving this title has really refreshed me as an employee, and encourages me to keep going and do even better.

Day 70

I went out with my mom for dinner tonight, spontaneously. I think spontaneity is a GREAT thing, but not always when it comes to food. If I had known that I was going out for dinner, I would have ate much lighter earlier in the day. What I already ate, I really could not take back, but I could have been much wiser when ordering dinner. This was one of those times when I think that I am eating healthy, but am still eating way too many calories. I ordered a chicken/fish combo, which sounded great. But, then it also comes with soup, salad, vegetables, and dessert! That is more than enough to take up all my calories for the day!

Breakfast:
2 nutrigrain bars 241

Lunch:
Half tomato mozzarella on ciabatta hot panini 380
Half grilled chicken Caesar salad 250
French baguette 150

Day 68

I can be a little messy at work, so I tend to go through work clothes pretty fast. My uniform is khaki colored pants, and a polo shirt. Before I started working at Panera, I never would have imagined how difficult it is to find khakis in my size. I don't want to spend a lot of money on them, since I am losing weight, and they don't last long anyway, so I am always looking whenever I am at Goodwill, or any kind of thrift store. I find plenty of size twos and sixes, but it is near impossible to find any in my size, let alone a pair that I like. A couple weeks ago, I found a pair that were my size, but way too tight to wear. They were only about $3, so I got them. I wore them for the first time today, and they fit really good! A little short, but that's not a big deal. Here's a pic:

Breakfast:
Cinnamon swirl and raisin bagel with reduced fat cream cheese 450

Lunch:
Bowl of Lemon Chicken Orzo soup 160
French baguette 160

Dinner:
Grilled chicken breast with broccoli, spinach, and a baked potato  500?

Total: 1580

Day 67

I was out on a date tonight, and we found a nice-looking Thai-Indian Cuisine restaurant. We decided to try it, and I am glad we did, just hoping it wasn't TOO many calories. We split the meal, a coconut chicken soup, Naan bread, and a wonderful chicken dish. The meal was PHENOMENAL! I would say it was the best meal I've had in quite some time. There is really no way to know for sure how many calories was in the meal, but I think a safe educated guess is 800. If it was less, that would be super.

Breakfast:
Cinnamon swirl and raisin bagel with reduced fat cream cheese 450

Lunch:
Cup of broccoli cheddar soup 190
Half grilled chicken Caesar salad 250
Fresh fruit cup 50

Dinner:

Day 66

Drum roll please...I am at the LOWEST weight I've been at in years! I've tried losing weight several times in the past 5-6 years, and the lowest I've ever gotten before giving up was a half a pound more than I am now. I've thought so many times that I was just not able to lose weight, but this proves that I am, and encourages me to keep going. I'm excited to wear a bikini next summer!

Breakfast:
Everything bagel with reduced fat cream cheese 430

Lunch:
Grilled chicken Caesar salad 510
Watermelon fruit cup 30
French baguette 150

Dinner:
Bacon ranch salad with grilled chicken from McDonalds 315

Day 65

I've been wanting to try Dunkin' Donuts' new Blueberry Waffle breakfast sandwich pretty much since it came out. I love blueberries, I love waffles, and I love sandwiches, so it sounded pretty great. I figured it would be way too many calories to ever try, so I never even considered it until one day. Today, I saw that sign, with it's delicious looking and very appealing marketing strategy, and curious, I decided to look up the calorie count on my handy iPhone. To my surprise and utter delight, the sandwich was only 550 calories. I like to keep my breakfasts around 500-600 calories, so that fit right in. Considering this, I decided to go for it. I'm not sure I would give it an A+, but it was definitely a tasty and satisfying breakfast.

Blueberry waffle sandwich from Dunkin' Donuts 550

Today I managed to stay within my calorie limit, but I still ate pretty bad. I hate eating junk food, especially for breakfast. Whenever I do, I feel horrible and either way too full or am hungry shortly after. I also believe that eating a small amount of junk food leaves you wanting more. I need to try to eat healthy breakfasts from now on, so I don't get stuck in that cycle.

Day 55

I was super hungry today! I had to eat something filling for lunch, so I went for a you-pick-two with a sandwich, since I had a small breakfast. I almost always get a bowl of soup instead of a cup, because it is a lot more filling for only a few more calories. I LOVE our new Lemon Chicken Orzo soup! I've been eating it as much as possible before it's gone, and after that, I'm going to have to learn how to make it!

Breakfast:
2 nutrigrain bars 240

Day 52

Today was my day off, so of course, I slept in. When I woke up, I ate two clementines, and then ended up going back to sleep for a couple hours. Lazy day. I had to meet with the other bridesmaids for the wedding I'm in to work on some things, so I headed out for that without eating anything for lunch. A few hours later, I wad STARVING, and luckily, my mom was cooking steak for dinner. I know it was a mistake to eat all of my calories late in the day, but I think I still did ok.

Breakfast:

Dessert:
Ice Cream 400

Total:

Day 51

My best friend met me for dinner after work today, and she wanted to go to Chipotle. I know that calories can add up fast at places like that, so we split a burrito which worked out great. I love splitting meals whenever possible, because it's normally just the right amount of food.

Breakfast:
Apple 90
Peach 30
Everything bagel with reduced fat cream cheese 430

Lunch:
Bowl lemon chicken orzo soup 160
Half Thai chopped chicken salad 200

Dinner:
Half chicken burrito from Chipotle and some chips 500

Day 50

Today was a long, slow day. I didn't sleep much last night, but forced myself to make wise choices anyway. My managers bribed me to stay late with a drink or food, so I got a soy latte. I've never tried soy milk before, but a friend from work swears by it, so I wanted to try it. I'll never go back to skim again. Our soy milk is the same number of calories as skim milk, but it's a little thicker, and is vanilla flavored, so it tastes really yummy.

Breakfast:
Peach 30
Apple 90
Nutrigrain bar 120

Lunch:
Bowl Lemon Chicken Orzo soup 160
Half Mediterranean veggie 300
French baguette 150

Snack:

Day 49

Today, on my way home from work, I was thinking about food. I was wondering why people eat what they do. What causes people to make the deliberate choice to put something into their bodies that they know will not benefit it? I don't know if this is anything new, or if it has been "scientifically" proven or not, but I really believe that food gives a natural, very temporary high. I know for a fact that I make my worst choices when I have had little sleep, have low energy, or am feeling depressed. Eating food that is high in calories just makes you feel happy. It gives you that little extra boost...for a little while. Then an hour later, you usually feel worse than you did before. I am reading a book by Peter Walsh called "Does this Clutter make my Butt look Fat?" In it, he says several things that have really hit home with me. Concerning making choices he says: "Every roll of fat on your body came from something you chose to put into your mouth. And every pound that slips away is going to be because of a decision you make." This statement is very motivating, yet chastising for me. Peter is basically saying that you are fat because of one person - yourself - and you are the only one that can change that.

Nutrigrain bar                                             120
One peach                                                   30

Day 48

I ate WAY too much yesterday. It was the holiday, and I did what most people do: I ate without thinking. Believing that since it is a holiday, calories don't count.

I got on the scale this morning and I am very close to gaining all my weight back. I can't play any more games. I need to do something drastic. I am doing a semi-detox this week, and hoping I can do it for a lot longer than just this week. I am going to be eating nothing but fruit, vegetables, low-calorie soup, salad, chicken and other lean meat (and nutrigrain bars when I'm in a hurry.) Today is my brother's birthday, and I will be eating yogurt or fruit instead of cake.

Breakfast:
2 nutrigrain bars                                         240

Lunch:
Greek salad                                               380

Dinner:
Bowl broccoli cheddar soup                       290

Day 46

Today was kind of a weird day. I was really hungry this morning, so I ate a lot for breakfast. I wasn't really hungry at lunch time, but ate a bowl of soup anyway. By the time I got out of work, I felt bloated and said I wasn't going to eat anything the rest of the night. I took a nap when I got home, and of course, was hungry when I got up. So, I went downstairs, and the fastest thing I could find was a donut and potato salad. I got to bed real late last night, so I think the lack of sleep caused my poor decisions for today. Tomorrow is Independence Day, and I have to be super careful, or I'm going to gain all my weight back. I am contemplating fasting a day next week, probably on a day off from work, just in case I get light-headed.

Day 45

Today, I was out on a date, and we spent time exploring. We found a lot of great stuff! - hotdogs, cupcakes, fries...lol. We actually did make one find that was pretty great. We found an adorable cupcake shop in Collingswood, NJ called "My Little Kupkake." Everything there looked delicious, but I have always been a sucker for peanut butter. We split the peanut butter cupcake. It was AMAZING. It had real peanut butter cups on top of it, and a peanut butter center. I'm going to start drooling just thinking about it. Later on, we split a dinner at a restaurant. It was a pasta dish with chicken in a delicious vodka sauce. This dish is something I would love to try to re-create at home. I'm guessing at the calories for both of these things based on what I found online.

Day 40

I hurt my knee at work a few weeks ago, so have not been able to do much exercising. I really wanted to do something today, even if it was for a minute. When I woke up, I did 30 jumping jacks. This wasn't much, but I'm glad I did it, and I can work my way up from there. After the jumping jacks, I weighed, and am back up a few pounds. I knew I had gained some weight back, because I have not been paying attention. I am just glad it wasn't more. I'm going to eat a huge breakfast today, and eat very light the rest of the day.

I finally lost the 7 pounds that I originally lost (plus another half a pound)! It took me a much longer time to lose it this time, and I think that is because I haven't been getting enough sleep. When I am tired I do not make good decisions. Today is fathers day, so I brought my dad home a whole cinnamon crumb cake from work. I shouldn't have had a whole slice of it for dessert, but I did. Hopefully slicing off some carbs at dinner time helped to redeem me somewhat.

No one else had any either, so I just had to work through it. This was the worst headache I've ever had in my life, and by the end of the day I felt very sick to my stomach also. I got a free brownie with my MyPanera card, and ended up eating this later on.

Tonight I went to my friend's house for dinner. She suggested quesadillas or pizza...I told her I was trying to watch the carbs so we made something a little lighter. When I got home I cleaned the bathroom so I rewarded myself with some cheesecake. Afterwards, I forced myself to take a walk to help compensate for the cheesecake. I was hoping to go around the development two or three times (I used to do 5), but I only made it once. Will have to work my way back up to 5.

Day 17

Today was a national holiday. That's right, national donut day. This means that dunkin donuts was giving away a free donut with every beverage purchase. So of course I had to take advantage of this deal. I stopped for a donut and latte for breakfast. I had a panera breakfast sandwich for lunch (early day today), and hit up a different dunkin donuts later for dinner. I have my own little donut scam going, lol. The chocolate glazed donut was a few more calories than I bargained for...but I found that out after it was already gone, so not much I could do about that! I was hoping to have a few more calories to spare for later, so if I get hungry I will have to eat something VERY low-cal.

Day 15

6:20AM:

I've lost 7 pounds in my first week. This encouraged me so much and I really thought I had the hang of this. Then I managed to gain 6 pounds back in my second week. Today was the first time I've weighed in a week. I knew that I was making some bad choices this week, and expected to see a slight gain. I would've been ok with 2-4 pounds. But gaining back almost all I lost makes me feel completely defeated. It feels like all of my effort has been for absolutely nothing and makes me want to give up. A friend of mine suggested that I only weigh once a week, but I know now that if I had kept a closer eye on my weight this past week, I would have seen the path I was going down and could have avoided it. I am now going to weigh at least every other day, and maybe every day. After I had lost that 7 pounds, I felt much better bit did not think it made much of a difference. When I looked in the mirror after I weighed, I realized it made a huge difference. I will never get to my starting weight ever again.

5:45PM:

I think I'm done sulking about my gain. I ate out today, but made good decisions. This gain has taught me a few things. One is that going off the diet may be fun in the moment, but it never, ever pays off in the end, and I WILL be miserable for destroying all my hard work. Another thing I learned is that I can not let setbacks like this get me down. If I do, I will gain all my weight back and more.

Breakfast:
Half omelet with bacon and cheese 150
A few tator tots 100

Lunch:
Cheese plate with mixed fruit 300
One and a half meatballs 375

Snack:

Day 14

Today I was running late, as usual. Didn't have anything quick to grab for breakfast so had to skip it. I really need to get to the store and find some fast breakfast meals for when I don't have anything from Panera and am in a hurry! I usually work the register at Panera, but today I switched with someone and worked with the food. Let's just say staring at all that food made me HUNGRY. Working on the line really makes me want to eat everything...without thinking about how many calories it is. Since I didn't eat breakfast, I was still hungry after lunch but did not eat my side of chips anyway. My best friend had a get-together for the bridal party tonight (the one I'm maid-of-honor in), and there were pork sandwiches there. There were also brownies, cookies, cakes, salads and all sorts of other goodies, but I tried to be good. I did indulge in a root beer float for dessert. I've been putting off weighing because I've been so bad lately, so I really HAVE to tomorrow. I really need to get back to being serious. Social events and activities make any diet/healthy lifestyle very difficult. I need to keep working to find a balance that works so that I can go out and have fun, but not gain weight!

Day 10

I've lost 7 pounds so far! I am going to be the Maid of Honor in my best friend's wedding, so we saw the movie Bridesmaids today. It was very funny, but did have some unnecessary lewd humor. I was not very hungry all day, until I got there, so we decided to split a small popcorn. I figured I could afford the calories because I was not eating lunch. Little did I know that later, I would be pigging out on old bay fries! A few of us got together to celebrate a co-worker retiring, and it was at a diner. I planned ahead of time that I was going to get a burger, and would eat half, or none of the bun to save on calories. I don't know why, but I ended up eating every last bite and was too full afterwards. I LOVE old bay fries, and they gave me a GIANT portion of them, so I definitely should not have eaten the hamburger bun. It wasn't even good. Lesson learned.

Breakfast:
Jalapeño cheddar bagel with butter 380

Snack:
Half small movie popcorn 320

Dinner:
Bison burger and fries 1000?

Total:
1700

Day 9

Okay. I admit that I did not eat very healthy today. BUT, my calorie total is still within my goal range, which is good. I was running out the door this morning, so for breakfast I just ate the first thing I saw lying around and it happened to be chips and an apple from panera. Not the best choice for morning fuel, but better than nothing. But that's not the worst of it. I really blew it when it came to lunch time. I was hot and exhausted, so decided to get something cool and energizing...forgetting there was 600 calories packed into it! My coworker did an excellent job making my frozen caramel....even putting it in a larger cup and giving me a little extra that was left in the blender...so it may have been just a few more calories! As for the bagel, I was just really wanting to try one of Panera's flavored cream cheese spreads. Before I knew what happened, I had spent 1,090 calories in one meal. THIS is why I need to plan my meals out ahead of time, lol. By the time dinner rolled around, I did not have many calories to spare, so decided to try the low-fat Garden Vegetable with Pesto soup. This was my first time trying it and it is very delicious. Definitely worth the 160 calories.

Breakfast:
Bag of chips 160
Apple 90

Lunch:
French toast bagel 350
Hazelnut Cream Cheese 140
Frozen Caramel 600

Dinner:
Bowl of Garden Vegetable with Pesto Soup 160

Total:
1500

Day 8

The baseball game was great! My team (The Reds) won! I love going to ballgames. I may see The Reds play the Orioles in Baltimore next month with friends which we have done the past few years.

Today, my plan was to save as many calories as possible just in case I saw something I HAD to have at the game. This strategy went well, except I didn't end up getting anything besides my planned hot dog, so I came up a little short on my calorie count. I found the calories for the hot dog online, so there is no way to know if it is totally correct or not...plus I added ketchup which probably adds a couple hundred calories.

I made the mistake of eating a cookie when I got home, just because I felt like I should. I didn't really want it, and wasn't hungry, and it wasn't that good. I have noticed in the past week that I do not crave sweets the way I used to at all. And if I do, I am satisfied with a much smaller portion (such as, one cookie instead of three.)

Breakfast:
Jalapeno bagel with butter 380

Lunch:
Bowl of Chicken Noodle Soup 110
French baguette 150

Snack:
Apple 95

Dinner:
Stadium hot dog with ketchup and onions 464
